May 22, 2020
What a year 2020 has been!! And I don’t know about you, but I actually feel closer to most of our Mt. Olive members AFTER Covid-19 hit, than I did BEFORE!! Thanks to the Holy Spirit … and ZOOM … and our friends at Pathways to Promise who are training us in hosting and co-hosting online meetings … and the Companionship Movement model that P2P has shared with us … and our connections at St. Philip’s School and Community Center … and St. Luke’s “Community” UMC and First UMC of Dallas.
Since Sunday, March 15, when we officially stopped worshipping together, in-person at the church we have:
- Started a ZOOM Worship Service on Sunday Morning at 11 AM in DallasTX75215 (currently focused on Jesus’ Companionship Lessons … Each One Reach One and Circles of Care)
- Started a ZOOM Bible Study on Wedesday Evening at 7 PM at 3100MLK (currently looking at the Book of Job … before going on to 1 Corinthians 9)
- Started a ZOOM Companion Chat on Thursday Evening at 7 PM (planning a Four Session Companionship Covenant Chat about 1 Corinthians 9)
- Started a Companionship in Dallas BLOG to better connect our Mt. Olive Folk with our South Dallas Community. Check it out at https://bruningt.wixsite.com/companionship
Here at Mount Olive Lutheran Church ELCA, we are people just like you, trying to make it in life. And we have found that a life following Jesus … and hanging out with people that also love Jesus … is the best way to lead a great and fulfilled life! Thank God we’ve been able to do that so well online too!! Even while social distancing, we’re drawing closer together. And that’s how Companionship works: overcoming the challenges of life and find new ways to walk SIDE by SIDE!!
BUT … Companionship is also about noticing the ones who still can’t connect … who don’t have a safe home within which to self-quarantine … who lack the devices or the wifi to ZOOM with us … who feel more lost and lonely now than ever. Our goal in the next month is to develop a Companionship Care Kit for our friends and neighbors who are still a bit disconnected. Maybe we can safely deliver one to your doorstep too!! Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you have by filling out our “Contact Us Form“. Now, more than ever, we are committed to responding quickly your request!!
Peace and Blessings be with you always,
Pastor J. Todd Bruning
